Hello people, I recently (about a week ago if you're interested) bought a MacBook Pro 9,2 running Catalina 10.15.5 this is my first Mac so I'm quite unfamiliar with the os but when I press command v or command c it types v or c instead of copying or pasting even though command space works. I feel like I've tried everything from hard restarting to setting a new keyboard shortcut for it. I don't know what to do now.
Thanks in advance.
MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

When you open the Edit Menu, is cmd-V and cmd-C shown as the shortcuts?
Any other standard commands not working (cmd-w to close the window, cmd-A to select All).
Do you know if the Mac was erased and reinstalled for you? If it wasn't, it may be a good idea to do that since you have no idea what the previous owner did to it.

- Command-C stops workingHow can I determine why Command-C stops working? So from time to time (frequently), I'll be working in Photoshop, Illustrator, or Apple Mail and for no apparent reason the Command-C shortcut stops being recognized. I'll copy something then go to paste only to discover that it is pasting the previous item from the clipboard. Then I notice that invoking Command-C isn't copying anymore. - Command+v doesn't work For some time now command+v hasn't worked with a variety of system dialog boxes, like Save As or naming a file. This occurs on all apps on my Mac (2019 3 GHz with 16 GB memory, Ventura 13.01).I've brought this up with Mac Tech Support previously, and the tech said they had the same issue, but no idea about its origin or how to resolve it. It's REALLY aggravating.Anyone have the same problem, or a possible resolution? 5504

That tells us it is system-wide, so the next troubleshooting step is to boot into Safe Mode and see if it works correctly. If it works correctly in Safe Mode, then it is something you have installed that is messing with it.

Before the reinstall, try this:
Reset theSMCand yourNVRAM:
Sometimes when changes are made to the system(i.e.updates), system configurations (i.e. forPorts and for the keyboard) become manipulated, technically. So, reset theSMCandNVRAM. Your hard drive may not be being read promptly, so resetting these, all of the ports would be configured to how they should be..

Can you tell us what you are trying to paste into or what application you are using?
Are you trying to "Copy and Paste" files in this way or is it just text?
I'm afraid I'm Photoshop user so I turned off the ⌘-space shortcut to Spotlight as soon as I got the Mac.

In which browser please? You are using powerpoint in a web interface which means you are still at the whim of the browser. I had some similar issues when I used Safari and MS apps online, I switched to Chrome and voila, copy and paste worked.

I'm not familiar with Windows hardware by think it may mean that your Apple keyboard is the problem. You should make an appointment at the nearest Apple Genius bar if it's open or at an Apple Authorized Service Provider to get it tested and repaired.
Note: didn't see オレンジ's response when I replied but we both seem to be on the same page.

You might have to get an external keyboard to use until a time when you can get to an Apple store for repairs.
I'd contact Apple and talk to them about the problem so you're on record about the problem in case you can't get to an Apple store for some time. You have a year for warranty but if you can't get to where you can get it to them before the warranty runs out you'll be on record and they should extend.

Does the problem occur in all apps? If so try the keyboard on another Mac to rule out (or in) a hardware issue.

Create a new user account (or use Guest account) and see if you have the same problem in that account.

How about a normal app? Microsoft has some weird ideas about allowing copy and paste in the browser.
