Guidelines and Tips for Substitute Teachers
Guidelines and Expectations for Substitute Teachers
Kids come first at Boyle County Schools. Substitute Teachers are an important part of student success and, as such, are expected to uphold the following guidelines:
- Please arrive on time and check in with the front office. Plan to arrive 15 minutes prior to the school's scheduled start time and leave no earlier than the scheduled end-of-day dismissal, unless you are a half-day substitute.
- Appropriate tone with students must be used at all times.
- Appropriate dress is required. Please avoid wearing denim jeans, shorts, flip flops, and any inappropriate logos or slogans.
- Follow the teacher's lesson plans. Substitutes are expected to continue with the daily classroom instruction. Every day counts and instruction and learning is expected to continue in the absence of a regular classroom teacher.
- Before class begins, familiarize yourself with emergency and evacuation plans, write your name on the board, and interact and talk with students in your class as they arrive.
- Leave notes for the teacher at the end of the day, including details on what you were and were not able to accomplish, discipline issues, compliments, and other comments on class behavior and productivity.
- Inform the principal or department head in cases of personal injury to staff or students, serious illness of any student, damage to school property, and serious discipline problems or infractions of school rules.
- Leave the classroom as neat as possible with items in the same place they were found.
- Strict adherence to the Policies and Procedures of the Boyle County Board of Education, the Employee Handbook, Code of Ethics for Certified School Personnel and Kentucky Revised Statutes.
Substitute teachers may be removed from the active substitute list at the discretion of the Superintendent and may be removed from specific locations based on the recommendation of respective building principals and / or department directors.
